Neenah, Wisconsin, based Cone Credit Union (CCU) is offering is advertising some highest certificate rates (CD rates) around for short term certificates. Finding really good certificate rates or bank CD rates isn't easy these days since the rate curve is flat thank's to the Federal Reserve. Of course that are other factors at play forcing the Fed to keep interest rates low but it's hard for retirees to live off of investment income when the highest CD rates aren't that high.
The shorest term certificate at Cone Credit Union is their 6 month certificate. 6 month certificate rates are at at 0.69 percent with an APY of 0.70 percent. Cone Credit Union has lowered the interest rates they offer over the past several years but that isn't unusual since all credit union CD rates and CD rates at banks have been going lower for years now. Cone Credit Union's 6 month certifcate rates are considerably higher than FDIC's current national average 6 month CD rate of 0.17 percent. Cone CU's 180 day certificate rate is also higher than 6 month jumbo CD rates in the FDIC national average which are at 0.18 percent this week.
