Besides beating the FDIC's average the best CD rates on our 6 month rate list are also above Bankrate's national average 6 month rate. Average CD bank rates for 6 month certificates of deposit are at 0.47 percent in Bankrate's national average rate survey. The FDIC's national average is even less at 0.17 percent and the FDIC's 6 month jumbo CD rates are averaging 0.19 percent.

The highest CD rates right now on our  6 month certificates of deposit list are above 0.80 percent. The highest CD rate on our list is from Doral Bank at 0.93 percent with an APY of 0.93 percent. That CD rate is more than 5 times the FDIC national average and 1 basis point shy of being double Bankrate's average.

The second best CD interest rate on our 6 month rate list is Ascencia Bank, Colorado Federal Savings Bank and EH National Bank. All three banks are currently offering 6 month bank CD ratse at 0.80 percent with an APY of 0.80 percent. CD rates at these banks are more than 4 times the FDIC average rate. AloStar Bank of Commerce has the third best CD rate on our list at 0.76 percent with an APY of 0.76 percent.
